Mounting drives upside down, sideways, not inside-out.

November 5, 2011

From the Western Digital Disk installation guide at: http://www.wdc.com/en/library/legacy/scsi/2079-001007.pdf

“To allow maximum performance in any orientation, the drives feature side and bottom mounting holes.”

From the Seagate drive installation guide at: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/iguides/ata/u7_ig.pdf

“Note. You can mount the drive in any orientation, however, the most common orientation is with the circuit board down.”

In general, mount drives any way you like, except inside-out.

I’ve had a several Western Digital drives die on me in the 2011, but no issues with their Seagate counterparts in the same PCs.  Has anyone else experienced something similar or different?
